University City Boulevard (UCB) is a groundbreaking public realm improvement and regeneration project in the heart of Sharjah’s university area.

Challenge

To transform an under performing urban corridor into a pedestrian-friendly and cycle-supportive boulevard, improving shade, comfort and movement experience for students, local residents and visitors across the university district.

Our Role

Place Dynamix led the public realm and landscape master planning, designing the boulevard as a human-scale mobility spine that balances vehicular movement with generous pedestrian and cycle environments alongside a bustling retail & F&B frontage.

Key Moves

  • Re-planned the corridor to prioritise pedestrian movement and safe crossings.
  • Introduced continuous shaded walkways and cycle route.
  • Designed a robust street tree and planting strategy to mitigate heat and enhance local character.
  • Integrated lighting, seating and rest points to support everyday use.
  • Ensured solutions were practical, maintainable and aligned with authority standards.

Impact

The boulevard now functions as a true civic spine, improving connectivity, comfort and identity across the district — and setting a new standard for mobility-led public realm within Sharjah.
