City Walk stands out, amongst other urban developments in Dubai, due to its densely planted pedestrian realm and streetscape. The streetscene improves as the planting continues to mature, contrasting beautifully with the mixed grey hardscape.

Challenge

To create a new benchmark pedestrian-focused retail and leisure destination in Dubai — transforming a car-dominant urban environment into a vibrant street-based district where people feel comfortable spending time outdoors.

Our Role

Place Dynamix was appointed as public realm specialist and landscape architect for the full external environment — including streets, plazas, courtyards and linear parks — from early concept design through to construction supervision.

Key Moves

  • Developed a cohesive public realm language unifying materials, planting, lighting and street furniture.
  • Introduced generous pedestrian priority zones with carefully considered     movement flows.
  • Designed climate-responsive shade and planting strategies to enhance thermal     comfort.
  • Integrated wayfinding, signage and lighting seamlessly into the streetscape.
  • Coordinated intensively with architects, utilities and infrastructure to retain     clarity and openness at eye-level.

Impact

City Walk has become a regional benchmark for contemporary, pedestrian-led streetscapes, demonstrating that walkable urban retail is commercially viable — even in extreme climates — when public realm quality is prioritised.
