Place Dynamix produced a concept vision for the reimagining of a 600m long stretch of the Esplanade in Minehead, Somerset. Working on behalf of West Somerset Council, Place Dynamix undertook a detailed analysis of the whole waterfront area, identifying where investment would yield the greatest benefit in lifting the offer of the waterfront.
Based on the analysis it was recommended to focus investment on a stretch of underwhelming public realm which was created as part of the flood defence works. A schematic plan was produced illustrating a series of landscape interventions that would enliven this part of the waterfront, introducing opportunities for play, seasonal retail and relaxation. The proposals also included a that connects the Edwardian part of the promenade to the Butlin’s resort, dragging people from the resort into the town and extending the time that visitors would spend at the waterfront.
The concept was presented to local stakeholders and formed part of the bid for s106 monies secured as part of the Hinckley Point C impact fund.
