Hazza Bin Zayed Street
Place Dynamix were invited by the Urban Planning Council to prepare innovative design solutions for a major new boulevard in the centre of Abu Dhabi.
Utilizing the existing ROW the design had to accommodate a new public transit route and station that we proposed as a multi-modal interchange where pedestrians, cyclists and public bus users could also continue their journey by tram.
The proposal involved a road redesign to reduce the pollution, noise and traffic impact caused by the carriageway in favour of ease of movement for ambient (non-vehicle modes) users. Reducing the carriageway and shifting its alignment allowed for space for ambient modes as well as significant retail and F&B facilities that will create a thriving street and transport hub.
Using TOD principles, we fashioned the focal point as a transit interchange enabling users a safe and convenient modal change. Shading from trees and photovoltaic panels creates a multi-seasonal plaza allowing users easy and comfortable transit access and opportunities to use retail services whilst passing. The result will be Abu Dhabi’s first truly multi-modal ‘complete street’.
