Um Alhoul Business Park
The Um Alhoul Business Park sits as the central commercial hub of the 37 square kilometer Qatar Economic Zone 3. The business park will provide the commercial , headquarters and administrative facilities for the wider economic zone with the additional amenities of retail, community and other support facilities. The setting of the business park is intended to offer an oasis and retreat within the wider commercial landscape of the economic zone.
The buildings are arranged to enclose a central park wetlands with decking areas, seating and a movement network above the large lake. The lake itself forms part of the wider areas sustainable drainage network and is connected by swales to provide the retention area for stormwater on days of heavy rainfall. On all other times of year it acts as a water feature to encourage biodiversity as well as provide an attractive space to overlook and sit beside. Future possibilities include greywater recycling. Numerous pedestrian walkways connnect through and out of the park into the wider economic zone over raised pedestrian crossings.
The buildings are oriented to enclose the park and provide the maximum number of views from offices to the attractive landscape areas. The buildings can also provide space for solar panels on roof tops and projecting canopies and structures are used to shade the public walkways below. The use of louvres is encouraged extensively to shade facades as well as these public walkways. At the centre of the business park is an iconic building structure to accomodate hospitality facilities an additional retail and F&B uses at ground floor to spill out onto public space. The public spaces beside hotel are also used for mosque facilities which have been oriented in line with Qibla. The park is also home to the headquarters of the economic zones management company and will house their adminstrative functions in an innovative building that projects over the central space.
