Warminster Town Centre regeneration proposals submitted to Wiltshire Council
Working with PER Consulting, Place Dynamix provided planning and urban design advice to Wiltshire Council on the redevelopment of land to the rear of Warminster High Street. Currently used as car parking and an underused library building, the team produced a range of development options based on sound market intelligence. Based on a growing population, predicted rise in demand for retail floor space and an analysis of the existing retail stock, the plan introduced new retail opportunities into the Town Centre. This enabled the Council to diversify the retail offer in the heart of the Town Centre, a key policy objective.
The majority of the existing car parking was maintained through better site planning with enhanced pedestrian movement through the site as part of an upgrade to the public realm. The plan sees the weekly market moved to a more prominent position and better integrated into the retail circuit. The library is relocated alongside other community uses as part of a mixed use development that introduces residential into the town centre and reuses the historic polices houses, re-using them as residential. What is currently a back land space is to be turned into an active part of the Town Centre.
